Camp Sew & Sew

Learn to sew or just hone your skills at Camp Sew & Sew. Grab a project and your sewing machine and join us as we creatively stitch together in a community of fiber friends. You’ll receive professional instruction and support of your fellow fiber friends. Join Susan as she draws from her vast reservoir of handwork, sewing and crafting experience to bring her insights, ideas, creativity and enthusiasm for fiber arts and sewing to the classroom. Let’s have fun working together, teaching each other and create something special.

Beginner Quilting

In this series of 7 classes, you’ll be making a 9-block sampler quilt. With each block in the series you will learn a piecing technique that is a basic in many quilt patterns. You will be doing some sewing in class and some at home. In addition, you will learn about handy tools and simple tips that quilters use and love. Prerequisites: sewing machine in good working order that you are comfortable using.  Be ready to discover just how creative you can be! Come see Karen’s beautiful sample and you’ll be inspired to start your quilting journey. Early bird discount- sign up on or before Jan 14th and receive a 20% discount on class fee.

Bailey Island Hobo Bag

Paper Piecing

It’s so easy to make paper-pieced blocks. Learn all the basics of this fun, quick method. You will make 4 small sampler blocks in class to make a small sampler wall quilt.  Pattern and fabrics will be provided.  All you need to bring is your sewing machine, sewing supplies and your lunch.                                                     

      

Machine Applique

Do you love the look of Applique, but are put off because of the hand work involved? Would you like to find an easier method, without the finished article looking flat and stiff? Come, try a new technique; You will learn four methods of preparing your fabrics for applique, learn how to set up your machine for the stitch, and then “applique” away.  Along the way, you will get to know your machine better, learn about needles and thread, and have some fun. Russian Punchneedle

Cabin Fever Sew-In

How does sewing for the whole day and having a homemade lunch and dessert served to you sound? Come join us for our first ever sew-in. It starts at 10:00 am and we will close up at 10:00 pm. Come or leave when you like. Start something new of finish up UFOs.

Curvy Jacket Class

Join Susan and make a fabulous crazy curves jacket. This is a quilt-as-you-go jacket using fat quarters and random piecing along with a front zippered closing and side pockets. You will learn the basics of wearable art making while embellishing your jacket with decorative threads and fibers. You’ll take a basic pattern and make it your own. Perfect for batiks! Machine Quilting “Free Style”

Okay ladies, start your machines! Susan and I have again teamed up to teach machine quilting. I will go over batting, needles, thread, grid and free motion stipple quilting and then the fun starts. Susan will do thread play and show you how to take simple shape and do amazing free motion art quilting. This class is designed for you to practice free motion quilting and get more comfortable with your machine. You will need a walking foot and darning foot for your machine.

        

Embroidery Basics

Strip Six-Lighting Rod

P.J. Pants

Who doesn’t love a snuggly pair of P.J. pants? These pajama pants are a great project for the beginner sewer and the seasoned veteran alike. Choose your style, long or Capri length, with or without pockets, elastic or tie waist. Teens welcome! Sewing machine experience helpful.

     

10-Minute Block

It’s not your grandmother’s patchwork technique! The “10-Minute” block technique enables you to piece a top, even a king size in an afternoon. Using the “10-Minute” technique allows you to create big blocks with a diamond center – and – guess what – those edges can be coaxed to curve without sewing any curved seams. It’s quilting magic, a quilter’s dream come true and it is fun! Perfect for 10” squares or layer cakes.

     

Jelly Roll Race

Okay ladies, this is fun! This quilt just takes one jelly roll (you can add borders later if you want to) but you’ll finish your top in class. The technique is easy so it’s great for beginners! First one to finish wins a prize!

     

            “Longarm” Machine Quilting Classes                                                      

Perfect Pantographs

Fee: $50 

This class covers all the details of making perfect pantograph quilts with no math! I’ll discuss what makes a great or not so great pantograph and what works well on certain quilts. You’ll learn the pantograph two-step, how to set-up and get started, control the herky-jerkies, and finish you quilt. This is a hands-on class so class size is limited to 6 students. Bring you quilt tops for quilting suggestions if you like.

 

Fancy Free Motion

Come spend the afternoon with professional longarm quilter Alice Koroski from Virginia Ann Quilt Co. Alice will share her skills with you to learn how to do “Angel Feathers” and beautiful feather meandering. This class is designed for the machine quilter who is comfortable working on the front of the machine and would like to take their allover designs to the next level. Don’t miss this opportunity to take a class with Alice!

 

     

Class Policy: Classes will be filled on a first come, first served basis. Class must be paid for at time of registration to secure your seat in class. You may register in person or by phone. At time of registration, a supply list will be provided (if applicable). If the class you are coming to is a machine class, please be sure your machine is in good working order and you are comfortable with your machine.  Classes are non-refundable unless we do not have our minimum for each particular class. If a call is cancelled due to inclement weather, we do our best to reschedule. Please check your calendar before signing up!
